Cut Thru' Igloo update #14

Brrrr!  That sure looks like cold water!  The pale pink fish must be nice and chilly!  I used Anchor multicolored floss, #1345, as stated in the chart.  I couldn't find a DMC variegated or variations substitute, and I even bought Cosmo Seasons floss but it wasn't the right color either.
Cut Thru' Igloo update #14
Has anyone heard the rumor that DMC floss sold in Europe is nicer than DMC floss sold in the USA? I didn't believe it, but as I was stitching the blue #519 in the water, I noticed it was so smooth and silky and slipped through the Aida like butter!  I looked at the label and it didn't have the "For sale only outside the European Union" note that is on all the other skeins, so I guess this one must have come from a European seller, or it's just a really OLD skein!  I'll certainly enjoy stitching all the blue water now!

  4. Great progress!
That is not fair, why is their floss better than ours? They do pay more for it.

  6. You're so close to done! I've heard the thing about the floss, and also that Anchor is softer and easier to work with than DMC (I agree with this one!). I have some DMC from the 60's and I can definitely tell how today's thread is thinner and cheaper. I'm sure it doesn't give you cancer or kill fish or whatever was wrong with the old stuff, so I trust it's for the best.

  7. I have not heard that about the floss, but I wonder if it is because cross stitching is a much bigger hobby over in Europe? Maybe they spend a bit more or use a higher quality cotton. Or maybe something that the US has banned makes the thread better. It would be interesting to talk to some outside the states stitchers and see what their opinions are.

  18. Very nice progress. With the heat and humidity we've had lately, the igloo sure helps with thinking cool.

  19. I've used both US and UK DMC and can't say I've noticed a difference in them other than the cost.
A skein here is almost £1 which is $1.50ish

  23. Love the water and the little fishies! I think I have heard that rumour, too. I do know that the Spanish fashion chain, Zara, don't offer the same clothes here in Australia as they do in Europe - we get a second rank of style, apparently!

  24. The igloo cut-thru is looking great. I'm stitching with black DMC and I'm noticing that this skein is smoother than usual. I have a skein of Sullivan's black and the DMC is smoother than that. Makes me wonder..
